THE
PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA:
A
DEMOCRAT?
Nokia Company, on
8 October 2014, decided to shut down its manufacturing unit at Chennai.
If
the present government had implemented the suggestion of this writer, it could
have averted this; and saved a large number of jobs.
The Reserve Bank of India Governor, Mr. Reghuram Rajan, on 9 October 2014, said that India has the
political will for financial sector reform.
Why does he talk about political will is not a clear one.
In fact, while he talked like this, the prime minister was addressing a public
meeting in a poll bound state.
If the ideas of a citizen reach the soul of the president, prime
minister and the Supreme Court of any nation, they must reach the mind of the
people as well. Then, he will acquire the political will to implement his
ideas.
Alternatively, the public opinion generated by him would
force the prime minister to implement his ideas.
In
a democracy of over 1000 million people, it is not necessary that he must do
door to door canvassing or hop on a plane to address public meetings.
A
tyrannical system will not allow this.
If a democrat seizes power in a tyrannical nation, he –setting
aside every other business – would give democracy to the people. As a natural consequence
of his action, he will soon acquire the political will to change the status
quo.
A
tyrant, on the other hand, would conceal the best men of the nation and their
ideas. He knows that the pressure they exert would never match the public
opinion. He will not acquire the political will to change the status quo. The
people might worship him is a different matter.
Thus,
a democrat alone can give democracy.
Now,
the prime minister can tell whether he is a democrat or a tyrant.
