282. PRIME MINISTER Mr. NARENDRA MODI: LOSING PATRIOTISM?

282

PRIME MINISTER Mr. NARENDRA MODI:
LOSING PATRIOTISM?

Reserve Bank of India Governor Mr. Reghuram Rajan, on 5 September 2014, attributed the poor growth rate of India to two factors. They are: 1.Slow governance and 2.Faulty allocation of natural resources.
Obviously, all patriotic people - from top to bottom - want the government to take over all natural resources. Why does Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi refuse to listen?

Former Chief Justice of India Sathasivam was sworn in as the Governor of Kerala state on 5 September 2014.
If the present Chief Justice of India also gets a berth like this, one would say that the present prime minister is afraid of the judiciary.

Prime Minister Mr. Modi said that the teachers tirelessly light the lamp of knowledge. He said this in connection with Teachers Day on September 5, 2014.
He said that the professionals should undertake free teaching classes in the nearby schools.
Though it is a digression, it must be stated that the present writer handled may classes at the Vellicode Middle School after his retirement from a college. No other person in India might have done it.
Coming back, the prime minister, on the same day, told the students that he was very cautious with his words, lest they would affect the nation.

The Union Government, on 7 September 2014, said that surveillance at the major coal mines would be tightened to control theft.
All minerals are being thieved. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) talks of massive loss as mentioned in Chapter 179. Therefore, the surveillance must pervade all sectors.

The New Indian Express, on 8 September 2014, requested the government to invest part of the Pension Fund and the Provident Fund in the stock market.
This money must be used for bullet trains or for other public investments.
Some people do remove public money through the stock market. It must be reiterated that their assets belong to the government.

Prime Minister of Australia Mr.Tony Abbott and Prime Minister of India Mr. Modi signed the civil nuclear agreement on 8 September 2014, at New Delhi. Under this agreement, Australia would supply uranium to the safeguarded nuclear power plants in India.
It must be noted that India is not a signatory to the Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT)
Prime Minister Mr. Modi described the agreement as a historic milestone in Indo-Australian relationship. He added that it would open a new chapter in bilateral co-operation.
Before talks Mr. Abbott handed over to Mr. Modi two medieval Shiva statues stolen from Tamil Nadu state and displayed at galleries in Australia.
Mr. Abbott had been given a grand welcome at New Delhi.
He paid homage at Amar Javan Jothi in India Gate in New Delhi.
Besides, he went to Rajghat to pay floral tribute at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. This work shows that it was a redundant act.

Supreme Court, on 8 September 2014, granted 15 days more to Mr. Subrata Roy of Sahara Company to sell his hotels in London and New York to pay to investors.
Hundreds of entities have escaped with the money of the unsuspecting people. The court must alleviate their sufferings.

The CBI Director, Mr. Ranjit Sinha, on 8 September 2014, told the Supreme Court of India that there were some details in the 2G case. He said that they - if divulged- would seriously jeopardize the 2G case.
Alarmed by his submission, the Bench asked him to file his counter affidavit not openly but in a sealed cover on or before 15 September 2014.
Evidently, the 2G case depends upon an unconstitutional secret. The court should unravel it.

The Foreign Minister of Germany, Mr. Frank-Walter, on 8 September 2014, called on Prime Minister of India Mr. Modi and requested him to deepen the bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, infrastructure, cleaning of rivers, high technology and manufacturing sector.
Prime Minister Mr. Modi is in the enviable position.
Japan is ready to extend technical and operational support for bullet trains. Germany is willing to give fillip to solar energy and heavy industry. He can utilize at least $100 billion of foreign exchange to accomplish everything. No public private partnership (PPP) or financial support from anyone is needed.

The Union Government, on 8 September 2014, decided to make it mandatory for scientists and researchers to undertake 12 hours of free lecture classes in schools and colleges in an academic year. The performance of the scientists and researchers would be evaluated every three years.
It is a laudable decision. The objective could be achieved without spending money.
In order to make this scheme a success, the Government should have simultaneously directed all schools to expose their students periodically to serving and retired college teachers and other professionals.

A Supreme Court Bench headed by Chief Justice R. M. Lodha, on 8 September 2014, indirectly asked the Election Commission of India to do away with booth-wise counting of votes. According to the Bench, this would annul the post-election vindictive approach of the winning candidates.
Actually, the winning candidates find to their great astonishment the support from the hopeless areas.
The suggestion would enable the system to rig the elections convincingly. Apparently, the present Chief Justice wants to hand down to the hapless Indians as many judgments as possible in very bad faith.

The Union Government, on 8 September 2014, requested the Supreme Court to decide the fate of 218 coal blocks. At the same time, it requested the court to arbitrarily retain about 40 coal blocks. It added that that a quick decision would enable it to reallocate them.
The government says that the licences had been granted to A, B and C following well defined laws and those in the hands of X, Y and Z had been granted arbitrarily. It is untenable.
The government should have taken a decision to take over all blocks in supreme national interest. But it dithers. The prime minister should not  lose his patriotism in this crucial matter.
