283. PRIME MINISTER Mr. NARENDRA MODI: SINKING DOWN?

PRIME MINISTER Mr. NARENDRA MODI:
SINKING DOWN?

The New Indian Express, on 10 September 2014, said that the four organizations empowered to inspect the private companies carry out about 1,75,000 inspections every year. The paper said that it leads to corruption.
Besides using information technology for transparency, the government could deploy inspectors on a permanent basis. Then they would be responsible for the illegalities, and not the companies.
Many private companies would prefer this method provided an option is given to them.
It will create a congenial atmosphere for the companies to grow without any court cases.

The Union Government, on 10 September 2014, cleared the sale of 10 per cent shares of the public sector Coal India Limited (CIL), Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to fetch Re. 43,000 crore.
There is over Re.6 lakh crore in the Provident Fund.
An equal amount is rotting in the Pension Fund.
The Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) must have a huge amount of surplus money.
The banks are replete with deposits.
The government discourages the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) from doing health insurance and others. Therefore, it finds it difficult to digest its income.
The government is not ready to use any of the above money.
But it wants to hand over this money to private parties. They, in turn, use it to buy the PSUs.
When the government decided to sell the public sector VSNL, the Bank of India (BoI) gave Re. 850 crore to a private company as mentioned in Chapter 8. Later, it bought the VSNL.
As there is no action for such corrupt deeds, the government repeats the same.
If the purpose is to garner money through disinvestments alone, the government could have reserved the shares among the States to avoid the condition mentioned in Chapter 41. It is not ready for it. It simply wants to take away the assets of the people all over India just to give them to a few people at Mumbai or London. This is out and out unconstitutional.
Apparently, the manipulators want to usurp public assets as a reward for the money and publicity given to the prime minister before the election.
“Pain or pleasure” a leader of a nation should not lose his patriotism and sink down.

This is letter No. 283.
